BEWARE of SCAMS & HOAXES

Never provide your Social Security Number or bank account number to any contractor or Federal employee that may come to your home in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.  Illegitimate FEMA representatives  have tried to convince homeowners to provide this information. Your Social Security Number and/or bank account number are not information that FEMA requests . All legitimate FEMA representatives have photo Identification. For any information in regard to FEMA assistance, please visit the Emergency Management page.

HIRING CONTRACTORS

November 12, 2012, 2:45 p.m. Message from the Long Beach Island Joint Emergency Operations Center:
The Long Beach Island Joint Emergency Operations Center would like to remind the citizens that in the aftermath of Sandy, contractors of all kinds will invariably be coming to the area seeking to perform work. We are asking everyone to be careful when dealing with an unknown contractor.
It is recommended that you be sure the contractor is registered with the State of New Jersey by checking them through the Better Business Bureau (www.newjersey.bbb.org) and through the Department of Community Affairs (www.state.nj.us/dca/). Get a written and signed contract from the contractor before any work is performed.
Do not pay by cash or with a check written to “cash”, instead make the check out to the company name. DO NOT pay the entire amount up front, pay an agreed upon portion then pay in full when the work is completed.

Winter House Check Program

The Police Dept. has a “House Check” program for properties unoccupied during the off season. Click here to download the form needed if you would like the police to conduct checks on your property or have contact information in the event of an emergency. Forms may be dropped off or mailed to Beach Haven Police Dept. 300 Engleside Ave. Beach Haven, NJ 08008.

 NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH

Meetings are held every Friday at 5:00 PM Memorial Day to Labor Day in the Meeting Room of the Borough Hall.  The purpose is to discuss any problems and concerns you may have in your neighborhood and to work on solutions.  Many ideas to help improve the quality of life in Beach Haven have come up at these meetings.  The Police Department would like your input and looks forward to meeting as many “neighbors” as possible.

Will resume after Memorial Day

SENIORS AND DISABLED RESIDENTS

The Beach Haven Police Department offers an “Operation Safe Call” program to seniors and disabled residents who live alone.  The program allows a resident to call in and speak to a representative of the Police Department on a daily basis.  If the police do not hear from the resident within the appointed time, a call and/or visit will be made to check on that person.  Registration forms for this program may be obtained at Borough Hall or at the Police Department during regular business hours and should be filled out and returned to the Beach Haven Police Department.
