NOTICE:
WHAT IS THE OPEN SPACE REFERENDUM?
- It is a question, that will appear on Beach Haven ballots, at the General Election, on Nov. 5th.
- It asks if voters will approve of Beach Haven establishing a "Municipal Open Space, Recreation, and Historic Preservation Trust Fund".
- The trust fund would be funded annually through a collection of a dedicated "open space" tax, equaling 1 cent per $100 of assessed property value. For example, a property assessed at $1,000,000 would pay $100 annually.
- The money would be dedicated to the maintenance, improvement, or acquisition of land for recreation and conservation purposes; including the improvement of parks, beaches, playgrounds, and bay front areas.
- It would make Beach Haven eligible for matching grants from New Jersey's Green Acres program, and from the County.
- Several neighboring towns, including Long Beach Township, Ship Bottom, Harvey Cedars, and Barnegat Light have passed similar measures.
