Covid-19 is a Vaccine Preventable Infectious Disease

2021-04-16T12:49:23-04:00

On Monday April 19, eligibility for vaccination will expand to age 16 and older. The Health Department will continue to offer appointments for Moderna Covid-19 Vaccine for Ocean County Residents 18 and over through our website Covid-19 tab at www.lbihealth.com. Moderna is currently only approved for 18 and older.

This week we have been seeing incidence of covid-19 infections plateau and pointing to a trend lower. However, the average number of new Covid -19 infections remains at an unacceptable level of 200 per day in Ocean County. With the expansion in eligibility, we want to continue reaching individuals in more of the middle and younger age ranges. Covid-19 vaccinations continue to offer the best opportunity to reducing the burden of Covid-19 in our community. When you get vaccinated, you are protecting yourself, family, friends and your community.

The country that is leading in percentage of their population vaccinated is Israel, fully immunizing over 50% of their population and by comparison New Jersey is currently at 27%. Israel has been experiencing a dramatic drop in new & severe infections since a mid-January peak of Covid cases. Their total population number is a little more than New Jersey at approximately 9 million. The January peak of new infections in Israel was approximately 10,000 per day and as of this week the average daily covid case rate is approximately 200. To compare New Jersey’s daily peak on January 13th of 6,922 confirmed cases and as April 11th reported 2,897 of newly confirmed covid cases.

Our local health department is making available appointments to our residents as our physical supply permits through our website: http://lbihealth.com/covid-19-vaccine-scheduling/. The option to schedule is posted when there are appointments available. Ocean County vaccination sites are still working through many eligible individuals, that to date are still unable to find an appointment. Our clinics are by appointment only and are in partnership with St. Francis of Assisi Parish & Community Center are located in the Parish Hall at 4700 Long Beach Boulevard, Brant Beach, NJ 08008.

Covid Vaccine Clinic Site

2021-05-21T12:21:42-04:00

Long Beach Island Health Department will be hosting appointment based Covid-19 vaccination clinics at the St. Francis of Assisi Church Hall located at 4700 Long Beach Boulevard, Brant Beach. This week in conjunction with this clinic site we are launching an online scheduling platform where all appointments will be made through our Covid-19 tab on our web site at www.lbihealth.com.  We will continue to post appointments based on the supply we physically have.  Please familiarize yourself with the following information:

  • The Long Beach Island (LBIHD) COVID-19 vaccination clinics are restricted to residents of Ocean County. Out of county residents should contact the local health department where they live for access to COVID-19 vaccinations. Ocean County residents will be required to have ID showing proof of residency when showing up to their appointment.
  • Ocean County residents must have an appointment with LBIHD to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. The LBIHD does not have any reserve (leftover) vaccine at the end of the day. Therefore, anyone who shows up at the end of the day – or at anytime – without an appointment will be turned away.
  • Appointments are NONTRANSFERABLE. Only the person named on the appointment will be able to receive the COVID-19 vaccine at that specific date/time. Please do NOT send anyone else in your place – they will be turned away.
  • Anyone who received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at one of the LBIHD vaccination sites,  can expect to schedule the second dose at the same time you are able to schedule the first dose.
  • Please do not call St. Francis Parish or Community Center regarding vaccine, they are not part of our scheduling system. Any individual with disabilities and/or access and functional needs, lack of computer access, should you require assistance, please call us at 609-492-1212.

The LBIHD appreciates everyone’s patience as more vaccine, sites and appointments become available.

2021-05-21T12:21:36-04:00

With a historic vaccine campaign unfolding and with increased anticipation and expectations building in our community, it is a good time to offer the public some information about the monumental efforts and undertakings conducted by our health department since the beginning of the Covid-19 outbreak, almost 11 months ago. Since March, there has been a tremendous, sustained effort underway in all health departments throughout the country and as much of this pandemic has been a disaster, it most certainly would be a catastrophe without public health systems.
