LBIHD Offers Immunocompromised Appointments for 3rd Dose of both mRNA Covid-19 Vaccines
joycemedia2021-09-24T13:58:37-04:00LBIHD Offers Immunocompromised Appointments for 3rd Dose of both mRNA Covid-19 Vaccines
LBIHD is providing an additional dose of Moderna or Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for individuals with moderately to severely compromised immune systems. Recently, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommended that people who are moderately to severely immunocompromised receive an additional dose of mRNA COVID-19 vaccine at least 28 days after a second dose of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. This includes people who have:
- • Active treatment for solid tumor and hematologic malignancies,
- • Receipt of a solid-organ transplant and taking immunosuppressive therapy,
- • Receipt of CAR-T-cell or hematopoietic stem cell transplant(within 2 years of transplantation or taking immunosuppression therapy),
- • Moderate or severe primary immunodeficiency(such as Di George syndrome, Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome),
- • Advanced or untreated HIV infection, and/or
- • Active treatment with high-dose corticosteroids (~20mgprednisoneor equivalent per day), alkylating agents, antimetabolites, transplant-related immunosuppressive drugs, cancer chemotherapeutic agents classified as severely immunosuppressive, tumor-necrosis(TNF) blockers, and other biologic agents that are immunosuppressive or immunomodulatory.
Individuals should talk to their healthcare provider about their medical condition, and whether getting an additional dose is appropriate for them.
Additional doses are by appointment ONLY, please call our office or schedule through our website by hovering over Covid-19 tab at www.lbihealth.com.
For those who received the one-dose J&J vaccine, the CDC advises that there is not enough data at this time to determine whether people with a compromised immune system will also have an improved antibody response following an additional dose of the same vaccine.
The LBIHD requires individual to bring their current COVID-19 vaccination record card identifying which 2-dose vaccine was administered prior and the dates. For more information regarding the additional dose, residents can visit: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/recommendations/immuno.html

LBIHD Reports no new Covid-19 infections since May 11th
joycemedia2021-05-24T14:46:56-04:00The Long Beach Island Health Department reported no new laboratory confirmed infections of Covid-19 within the jurisdictions of Long Beach Island since May 11, 2021. This is a significant milestone in the fight to control Covid-19 with a vaccine campaign starting locally on January 4th 2021.
This reprieve is hopefully a permanent reality from the high case activity of infectious disease we had just a few months ago. The Health Department emphasizes the necessity to vaccinate those who have not been immunized against Covid-19. In many parts of the world, this disease is not under significant control and as we know from the start of the pandemic, no nation could completely isolate itself from this disease. The more immunized the population, the less burden of disease we will experience.
The Health Department is continuing to offer Covid-19 vaccines as it provides the best protection from Covid-19 infection, prevents transmission and keeps this highly transmissible respiratory disease from re-establishing itself in our community.
Our vaccine clinic’s are held every Wednesday’s from 9-11:00 am located at St. Francis Parish Hall 4700 Long Beach Boulevard, Brant Beach. We offer Moderna and Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccine to those 18 and older.
Walk-In’s are welcome but individuals are encouraged to register online to guarantee a time spot.
