The Office of Emergency Management’s purpose is to protect life and property during emergencies by coordinating response activities of municipal and volunteer resources to ensure optimum use.

This mission is accomplished through disaster mitigation and preparation activities and coordinating emergency response and recovery operations.

Know in advance when flooding is forecast by signing up for Beach Haven’s new flood advisory system!  Beach Haven has partnered with Stevens Institute’s Davidson Laboratory in utilizing their Flood Advisory System and has developed warning thresholds for Beach Haven residents. The system will warn you when tidal flooding is forecast within 8 hours prior to the high tide occurring.

Simply click on the link above or visit here and enter your email where it says “Manage Email Notifications.” Then select “Little Egg Inlet” as your site. The system is currently set up with the ability to email alerts, however, residents can receive the alerts as a text message on their phone by adding their cell as an alternate email.  To do this, you must enter your 10-digit cell number followed by the email gateway for your respective carrier (AT&T is @txt.att.net; Sprint is @messaging.sprintpcs.com; T-Mobile is @tmomail.net; Verizon is @vtext.com)

HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS

The New Jersey Office of Emergency Management (NJOEM) has asked us to provide you and your citizens some important information regarding this hurricane season.

Hurricane season runs from approximately June 1 through November 20, but as demonstrated by the 2005 season (including Hurricane Katrina) this time frame can vary. For New Jersey, the peak time for hurricanes and tropical storms runs from mid-August through the end of October.
strong>NJOEM recommends the following readiness steps:

  • Get a Kit” of emergency supplies – the items that will help you stay self-sufficient for up to three days (72 hours), if needed.
  • “Make a Plan” for what you and your family will do during an emergency – this includes knowing how to evacuate and how to Shelter-in-Place.
  • “Stay Informed” of possible threats – especially during Hurricane Season. Tune into your local media outlets for the latest breaking weather news. In the event of an emergency a battery powered radio is a great tool.

Additional information on the hurricane season is HERE

In the event of any kind of emergency, first responders will need to know who is in need of special care or assistance. To register for the Special Needs Registry visit www.registerready.nj.gov or call toll free at 2-1-1 to register by telephone.

If a Storm is approaching New Jersey:

  • Keep your gas tank full
  • Have cash and identification on hand
  • Monitor local media for official instruction
  • If Required to Evacuate:
Follow instructions immediately

If you are a tourist, take what you brought as you may not be allowed back into affected areas. When driving, follow the “Blue Dot” evacuation signs to safe roads and shelter, if needed.

NJ Disaster Legal Services (DLS) Number is LIVE! FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Free legal hotline for storm victims opens at 9 a.m. today New Jersey State Bar Association, ABA Young Lawyers Division and FEMA help residents New Brunswick-

A toll-free legal aid line is now available for people facing legal issues due to Hurricane Sandy. Residents who cannot afford to pay an attorney can call the help line to request free legal assistance at 888-541-1900, starting at 9 a.m. today (Monday, Nov. 12). The New Jersey State Bar Association, American Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division and the Federal Emergency Management Agency have teamed up to provide help to residents. “Lawyers have a special obligation to give back to the community, and as the state’s largest lawyers group the New Jersey State Bar Association is dedicated to serving as a source of assistance to the public. As they have in other disasters, our volunteer attorneys are ready to help people whose lives have been forever altered by this storm,” said State Bar Association President Kevin P. McCann. The hotline is open to residents who need legal help related to the disaster. Assistance will be available in connection with insurance-related claims, FEMA appeals, landlord-tenant matters and creditor-debtor matters.

The way the program works is:

Through an intake process, callers will be matched with a volunteer attorney who can provide assistance or general legal information regarding their issue.

Callers should identify that they are seeking legal assistance related to Hurricane Sandy.

The hotline will be staffed during normal business hours, but messages can be left at any time. The helpline is part of a long-standing partnership between FEMA and the ABA, and is administered by the New Jersey State Bar Association through its Mass Disaster Response Program. Hours are 9-5 (M-F). Messages can be left and calls will be returned the next day.

ATTENTION: FEMA’s strongest recommendation is to file a claim with your insurance company and also register a claim with FEMA at 800-621-3362 or online at disasterassistance.gov

FEMA strongly recommends if in doubt register your claim and generalities can be analyzed at a later point. FEMA guidance will be available to you in the immediate future.
